We proudly offer a competitive selection of road freight services, including but not limited to local and cross-border solutions.
Road freight is the most common mode of transport for goods worldwide. It is an efficient and effective mode of transport and is less costly than air freight, especially for large or heavy shipments. Road freight has several advantages for import and export customers in South Africa.
With many years of experience in navigating the challenges that are specific to hauling freight through Africa, we leverage our network to ensure smooth and reliable passage and timely delivery.
Road Freight Solutions we specialize in:
- Cross-Border Transportation
- Road Logistics Services
- Bulk Cargo and Commodities
FTL (full truck load) cargo consignments are collected using a one of a selection of trucks – the trucks most suited to your type of cargo will be dispatched. The types of trucks include Taut-liners (curtain trucks), Tri-axle and Super link articulated trailers, Pantechnichons and various other combinations of truck and trailer, including refrigerator and freezer containers, flat-bed and low-bed trailers as well as tanker trailers.
Part-load or break-bulk LTL (less than truck load) consolidated consignments can be transported using a variety of open and closed vehicle types, ranging from 1-ton trucks to trucks that are able to load up to 36 tons.
Specialized transport requires special permits and arrangements. The specialized transport that we can assist with includes:
- The transport of chemicals and hazardous materials.
- The transport of abnormal loads (extra weight, extra height, extra length or extra width).
Since Joveric 4 Africa makes use of a combination of sub-contractors and owner driver hauliers, we are able to take on very large contracts with ease.
Our daily objective is to implement and add increased value to road deliveries. We do this through a high level of customer service and state-of-the-art operating and management systems.
Frequently Asked Questions
Do you provide a door-to-door service?
Joveric 4 Africa provides a complete door-to-door service including customs clearance throughout Southern, Sub-Saharan & Equatorial Africa. We will organize and monitor all transportation and cross-border customs clearance, where required.
What are some of the challenges that affect the price of hauling cargo into Africa?
Joveric 4 Africa will always negotiate the best possible price for its customers. There are, however, many factors that affect haulage prices in Africa.
The poor condition of roads
According to the Southern African Yearbook, only about 20% of the roads in Southern Africa were built to withstand the demands of heavy transportation. Couple that with over-loading and the general lack of proper and timely maintenance to roads and we are faced with an ever-worsening dilemma. Bad roads lead to more damage to trucks, tyres and loads and more accidents – and all this leads to more costs. It also leads to slower delivery.
Border posts
Border posts are plagued with inefficiencies and corruption. The archaic systems, poorly trained personnel, lack of integration, inadequate parking and high fees all contribute to the significant delays suffered at the border posts. It is a well-known fact that offering bribes to some border officials in some countries will expedite a border crossing.
Cost of fuel and tolls
The forever-rising cost of fuel in African countries contributes significantly to the cost of road freight. In addition to this, the relatively high cost of tolls along most major routes also impacts the costs.
Lack of skills
The scarcity of skills among drivers and technicians impacts vehicle operating costs, accident rates, fuel consumption, vehicle downtime and lifespan. The increased demand for higher wages and related industrial action also impact on the costs and efficiency of road transportation. The cost of training drivers and technicians is also significant.
Environmental impact
Trucks are major contributors to environmental pollution, and curbing the omission of greenhouse gases is a hurdle that every transportation business is likely to face. There are costs involved in investing in more fuel-efficient, eco-friendly vehicles.
Return Loads
Another issue is return of load cargo in Sub-Saharan Africa; if you have an empty return leg these costs must be sufficiently factored into the price of moving the goods to the destination. At the same time the costing must be reasonable in order to remain competitive. Joveric 4 Africa leverages relationships in our network to secure return loads wherever possible.
Lack of expansion and infrastructural development
The lack of expansion and infrastructural development in many African countries has resulted in congestion in ports and container terminals, ineffectual or underutilized rail systems, a lack of integrated computer information systems, a lack of standardized documentation requirements and general inefficiencies that cause unnecessary delays and increased pressure on the road freight industry. The increase in demand also pushes up prices.
